A coconut-derived amphoteric surfactant used in rinse-off cleansers to boost foam and soften the cleansing action of harsher surfactants. Generally safe in rinse-off products, but can contain sensitizing impurities (DMAPA, amidoamine) that cause contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals.
